Dinner at Chez Serge ..... An excellent introduction to the local food of the Provence .....
If we would not have had lunch at Le Vivier the next day - this would have been the highlight of the experience we had hoped for in the Provence - which did not disapoint with any place we had a meal. Chez Serge is everything we had read about and ranks very highly among the top restaurants we have had the pleasure to eat at this year.
Entrees: Smoked Salmon & Terrine of Foie gras and pork with lentils
Mains: Salmon for Jim (as the Tuna steak and anchovy was not available that night); Lamb Provencal for Jacqui & an excellent Steak (medium rare) with the finest mashed potatoes (only the french can do it like this with what seems to be more butter than potatoes).
Jacqui and Hans had a Creme Brulee with some 'tart' berry base (Johannes berries) and some coffee (H tried to get some 'cafe anis' that he was introduced to at the Costa Brava - but it does not translate into French successfully)
Chez Serge - 90 rue Cottier, Carpentras - Mains $ 40 - 56

After visiting the Markets at Caromb & Mormoiron we went for Lunch at Le Vivier in L’Isle sur la Sorgue ....
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE - anybody who enjoys good food must eat here ar least once in their life.
an Oyster with a "Aspargus Mouse" was served as a palet 'exciter' - followed by ....
Entree: 1 x Foie gras terrine (with a layer of smoked Eel) and a Fig Chutney & J & J had a selection of 6 entree "morsels" (Tapas style)
Main: 2 x Pigeon Pie with Foie gras & porcini mushroom (for H & J); & Veal Sweetbread, apricot & veal tongue spring roll for Jim
Desert: "Tout chocolat" Chocolate selection for Jacqui, a selection of Farmhouse Cheeses for Jim
& Carpaccio of mango with lime mousse, carrot au ginger for Hans.
J & J shared a bottle of a local Domain's white wine while Hans had a couple of cold Belgien "Valeir" Beers over the three hour experience of Excellent Cuisine, Ambience and Service provided by Patrick and Celine Fischaller and their team - at VERY GOOD value for money.
Le Vivier - 800 Cours Fernande Peyre, L’Isle sur la Sorgue (click for map) - Menu € 48 [others up to € 75]

Lunch at L'Univers Restaurant in the center of Carpentras - Good honest French Cuisine:
Entree: Selection of Country meats for two; Pate de Foie with french toast & served with picante "chutney"
Salad Parisienne - Ham, Ementaler, Mushrooms et Cruitons on a Green Salad
Mains: 2 x Frogs Legs with wild rice and 1 x St Jacques with baby Carots and wild rice.
Jacqui had another Creme Brulee - this time with figs as a base.
... and .... here we may write more (?) about our experiences in this section of this stage
[when / if we have the time]
